The Middle East has been an unstable area for centuries and it seems that there is no end in sight. It is a shame, too, because that region is rich with history and culture, and many regard it as the cradle of civilization.

Because of that richness of culture, many outside countries have come in and tried to influence the region and extract some of those riches. This has only served to make matters worse. Then after World War II the powers that be it would be a good idea to drop Israel right into the middle of the region. What could possibly go wrong?

In the last decade we have been at war in Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya. We have also funded conflicts in Lebanon and Egypt, while keeping a close eye on Iran and Syria.

Have you ever gone to one of those water parks where the water shoots up from the floor in several places? You step on one stream of water and it shoots up somewhere else. You move to that one and it shoots up somewhere else. That is what it seems like when we intervene in the Middle East. We “fix” a problem here, only to have a problem pop up over there. We make Kuwait happy but anger Iran. We rid Iraq of an “Evil Dictator” (who once was a friend) and all hell breaks loose in the country.

Do we side with the Sunni’s or the Shi'ites? Which one supports Al Qaeda? Where did this Muslim Brotherhood come from? Are they the good guys or the bad guys?

Syria is another of those situations where yesterday, the leader of the country was a friend and a reformer, but today he is evil. They are in the midst of a civil war and President Obama wants to intervene on behalf of the rebels and against the government forces. What could possibly go wrong?

Why does President Obama want to support the rebels? It is a known fact that they are affiliated with Al Qaeda, you know, the guys who brought down the World Trade Center. We spend billions of dollars and shed the blood of thousands of brave Americans to find and kill their leader, Osama Bin Laden. Supporting them now is a slap in the face of our military and it could be considered an act of treason to aid an enemy.

This is not a conflict that we should involve ourselves in at all. Neither side likes the United States and they hate everything we stand for. Not only that, but Russia, which supports the Syrian government, has pledged to defend Syria against any attack by the United States, while no other major power is willing to join us. Are we really willing to risk a World War III for a situation that poses no threat to us whatsoever? What could possibly go wrong?

Let them fight it out, and in the words of Sarah Palin, “Let Allah sort it out.” Let’s stop playing “Whack-a-Mole” in the Middle East.
